Court docked security guard for allegedly obtaining N2.5m, from accommodation seeker

A security guard, 26-year-old Mohammed Andoka have been docked at the Igbosere magistrate court for allegedly obtaining the sum of N2.5million from one Mrs Ruth Obaseki pretending to rent a three bedroom apartment to her.

Andoka is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and fraud, preferred against him by the police.

According to the prosecutor, Sergeant. Cyriacus Osuji, the accused committed the alleged offences on March 13, at 2:00pm., at his residence.

He alleged that the accused fraudulently obtained the sum of N2.5 million from the complainant, Mrs Ruth Obaseki, under guise of renting a three bedroom flat to her.

Osuji further stated that the accused failed to rent the apartment to the complainant, as promised.

The prosecutor, however, said that the accused stole the said money which he obtained fraudulently.

According to him, the offences committed is punishable under Sections 285, 312 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused denied the three-count charge.

The Magistrate, Martins Owumi, granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Owumi also said that the sureties must deposit N100, 000 to the court registrar’s account and must swear to an affidavit of means and their addresses verified.

He adjourned the case till April 20 for mention.

 

Sales rep arraigned by police for allegedly defrauding his employer of N153.4m

The Igbosere magistrate court, Lagos sland, yesterday arraigned a sales representative, 31 year old Onwuma Uche for allegedly obtaining goods worth N153.4million

The accused is standing trial on a four count charge bordering on obtaining, stealing and cheating, preferred against him by the police.

The prosecutor Inspector Ingobo Emby informed the court that the accused committed the alleged offence ‎sometime in 2013, at Shop A14, Imo Plaza, Balogun Market Trade Fair along Badagry Expressway Lagos.

He said that Uche obtained cartoons of perfumes worth N43,397,000 and 1,047 cartoons of Shampoo worth N60million, under false pretext that he was going to sell the goods and then refund the proceeds to the owner which he failed to do.

The prosecutor also said that the accused cheated his boss one Nkem Onyeka, by not remitting the ‎proceeds of goods he sold worth N53million.

Emby said that the accused fraudulently stole the said money by omitting the invoice and other account books of his employer Onyeka.

The prosecutor said that the offences committed is punishable under sections 419, 421, 438 (C) and 390 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2011.

However the accused pleaded not guilty to charge against him.

The Magistrate B. A Sonuga, granted him bail in the sum of N10million, with two sureties in like sum.

He said that one of the sureties must be a blood relation, show evidence of three years tax payment to Lagos state government and their addresses verified by the prosecutor.

The case was adjourned till April 27, for mention.

 

Jumia, online commerce platform release official statement on murder of delivery agent

The Chief executive officer of Jumia, an online commerce platform, Juliet Anammah, released an official statement in respect to the murder of one of the delivery agents who was killed by customers after he delivered two phones to a house in Port Harcourt, River State.

It was alleged that the customers killed the delivery agent and dumped him inside a septic tank

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS of the Rivers State Police Command arrived at 4, Adaede Street by location, Off Ada George Road, Port Harcourt, after they were alerted by residents.

Below is the official statement

“It is with saddened hearts that we announce the ongoing police investigation into the disappearance of a delivery associate of one of our partners which has been possibly linked to the recovery of a deceased body by police investigators.

The associate was employed by our third-party logistics partner in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Jumia Nigeria’s regional management is working full time with the partner, the local police and the family of the associate to investigate the case.

While the full facts are yet to be known, the delivery associate was reported to have been last seen on Saturday during his delivery runs. We thus await the results of police investigation on the matter.

While we continue to hope for the best possible outcome, we ask that the general public joins us in upholding the family and the logistics partner with prayers and support during this sensitive and difficult time.

Delivery associates and logistic partners are an integral part of our e-commerce business. They are a hardworking force of dedicated men and women who go through rain, sun and tough terrain to deliver to our customers’ expectations.

We condemn and stand against all forms of verbal or physical assault against them and regard security on the job of the utmost importance.

We acknowledge and appreciate the public support that has been shown to the family, our partner, and Jumia. We ask that continued support and prayers be offered on behalf of the associate’s family during the ongoing investigation, even as we also respect their privacy at this time.”

Not everytime jollof rice, fried rice and the rest of that crew, it’s always a good idea to eat something different!

Try this recipe of native jollof rice and see if you won’t enjoy every bit of it!

Here are some ingredients you need!

INGREDIENTS:

Rice
Chopped Ugu vegetable
Salt
Seasoning Cube
Onion
Red or yellow peppers and tomotoes

Prawns, smoked fish, ponmo, dry fish, crayfish, palm oil and locust beans/Iru

You may add meat as a side if you like

Par boil rice and then cook the tomato, pepper, and onion until it is almost dry.

Heat up pot with palm oil, when it is hot add chopped onions, peppers, locust beans, and fry for 3 minutes. Add roughly blended tomato mix, add crayfish, chopped ponmo, dryfish, and smoked fish, prawns, seasoning cube and salt. Allow this to fry till the oil floats to the top.

Add enough water that will cook the rice, then add the par boiled rice. You then stir so that the ingredients will go around, cover and allow to cook until rice is well done and ready to eat!

And you are good to go!

Here is a chance to do so as the Nigerian Communications Commission has set up a portal for stakeholders and the general public to get involved in the process

The commission has however identified key stakeholders. They include all Internet Service Providers in Nigeria, relevant associations, ISPAN, CPN, ATCON, ALTON, GSMA, Nigerian Computer Society, Nigerian Internet Governance Forum and several Government Ministries, Agencies, and Departments , NCC, NITDA, NiRA, NBC, CBN, Ministry of Communication.

Security agencies, NPF, EFCC, ICPC, NSA; interested multinationals (Facebook, Microsoft, Oracle; academia and the general public.

Stakeholders are expected to submit their input; comments, concerns, feedback, and suggestions for scope and content via an online portal
